Once pigs started hitting the ground across the country from firms utilizing ONLY EDITION, and we saw what was being generated beyond what we already knew at SAVAGE, we knew we had to be on the hunt for a son. That opportunity came when Blake called and said he’d found one at Brockman’s farm sale that R.W. Genetics had brought. It didn’t take long for this boar pig to draw serious attention from those in attendance. Fortunately, when the gavel dropped, he was headed to Newcastle.

ONLY SHOT offers the same power, bone, and foot quality that made his sire so impactful. However, he brings that Whitman look that should be patented. His design, extension ahead of his blade, and added hair take him a step forward from his sire.

We were fortunate to get ONLY SHOT secured and brought home to SAVAGE, especially after the success and demand surrounding ONLY EDITION offspring. Losing ONLY EDITION at such a young age, just as his influence was accelerating, was certainly disappointing. That said, our excitement has quickly shifted to ONLY SHOT and his opportunity to step into that role. A major advantage—and added layer of confidence—comes from his generating ability, backed by his proven dam, 46-4.

Rick has long been known as someone who takes building a sow herd seriously. The influence of Here’s the Deal on the Duroc breed is undeniable, and that alone elevates our confidence in ONLY SHOT. When visiting with Rick, he’s quick to point out that over half of the red sows currently working at R.W. are daughters or granddaughters of Ms. Here’s the Deal 46-4.

Watching ONLY SHOT mature has been exactly what you hope for. He maintains proportional width, stays square at the ground, continues to develop bone circumference, and remains sound on his feet and legs. He doesn’t have a tight joint in his body. His ability to stay correct while adding mass is a breath of fresh air. We expect a significant amount of his generating power to stem from the dam side of his pedigree.

Phenotypically, ONLY SHOT is still stout-skulled like his sire, with a huge forearm, big bone, and massive feet. He has an exceptional look from the side, but it’s his added width and squareness from behind that truly separates him.

We encourage breeders to use ONLY SHOT when building Duroc show gilts, replacement females, or when structural integrity and power are needed. Much like his sire, we believe he will add skull shape, power, and keep Durocs moderate and relevant for today’s show ring demands.
