It’s been a minute since the Hampshire breed has seen a true power hog like this guy, we feel. To be honest, I didn't even see him walk into the ring for the Boars of Fall Preview. Luckily, I saw the Cain boys walk him out of the wash rack and thought he was a crossbred entry. Then they said, “No, Hampshire.” That was enough for me!
Boldness, mass, bone, density, hair, a manly skull, dimension, huge barrel rib shape, massive back shape, forearm, foot placement, fat toes, strong pasterns, square hips—all with glowing presence. These are just a few terms that can be used to describe Core Power.
What impressed us even more was that, on that day, there were as many good Hampshire boars with breeding value at one event as the breed has seen in a while. Yet, when he strolled across the driveway for people to see, he showed off traits that could not be equaled.
We are extremely excited about the pedigree of Core Power. He is sired by one of the two popular Ice sons the Muegge crew had at the ‘23 Summer Conference—Stone Cold—which sold to Cain’s for $35,000, while his $20,000 brother landed at Hi Point.
It’s also worth noting that their littermate sister was named Champion Hampshire Gilt at the Indiana State Fair. The mother of Core Power is equally impressive. She is sired by the $70,000 Conviction boar Cain purchased from Watson. That makes us even more pleased, as we saw that boar at Mike’s and left there feeling that thing was tremendous. Beyond that, you’ll find Danger Zone and the great Judith sow family from Hi Point.
With all that combined, you wouldn’t expect anything less than greatness—all wrapped into one. Simply put, we love this boar, and he’s breeding the majority of the sows that come into heat at Savage. After securing ownership, it was amazing how many purebred and crossbred breeders reached out with interest in Core Power.
